Fury Ford Sandton is once again proud of our association with the amazing Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa (FMSCA)! The Ford Struandale Engine Plant in Port Elizabeth has opened a brand new Medical and Wellness Centre to benefit its employees in terms of overall health and wellness.
According to John Cameron, Plant Manager for the Struandale Engine Plant, the investment in the new Medical and Wellness Centre was essential in order to support its approximately 650 employees.
"Our employees are our most valuable asset, and we have an important role to play in their overall health and wellness," Cameron said.
The launch was hosted by the management team from the Struandale Engine Plant as well as management from partners Life Occupational Health and Careways. The multi-faceted new clinic located in the administration block was officially opened by Dr Bernd Kaemmerer, Ford of Europe's Director of Health Service and Shaun Renze, Manager Personnel Services at Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa (FMCSA).
"I am proud to be part of this special occasion which places the Struandale Engine Plant right up with the best on-site medical and wellness centres," Dr Kaemmerer said. "Through the ongoing support of Life and Careways, and the clear dedication and enthusiasm of the Ford team, I have no doubt that the employees will be even better served with top-notch medical and wellness care and support."
The new facility offers a comprehensive range of medical services to employees in association with Life Occupational Health - a partnership that has been in place for the past 18 years. Consultations are provided with the team of on-site nurses led by medical practitioner Dr Bonakele Qabaka, along with a specialised trauma unit and dedicated ambulance to deal with medical emergencies.
A sophisticated audiometry unit has been installed to conduct hearing tests, along with a spirometry unit to evaluate lung function. The centre also offers a comprehensive employee assistance programme (EAP) through its partnership with Careways to support employees in a wide range of overall wellness issues. This extends to personal, marital or family problems, mental health and even substance abuse, financial and legal concerns.
