Ford recently revealed the first of their new Ford EcoBlue advanced diesel engines, which will deliver optimised fuel efficiency and reduced CO2 and NOX emissions.
Building on the success of the EcoBoost petrol engines, Ford’s new range of EcoBlue diesel engines will power future passenger cars and commercial vehicles.
Power outputs will start at 78kW with a mid-level specs at 97kW and 127kW. The EcoBlue engine likely to be used in Ford's passenger vehicles will post power figures of 149kW, up to 180kW.
The four-cylinder 2.0-litre Ford EcoBlue will debut in the new Transit and Transit Custom commercial vehicles, replacing the current 2.2 TDCI engine.
Ford engineers say that the new engine will have 20% more torque at 1250 r/min. Claiming to have improved emissions by more than 10% as well as improving fuel economy by 13% in the new Transit.It is still early days and Ford South Africa has yet to confirm when the new unit is bound for SA.
