Yesterday, Liane van Dyk was announced as the winner of the 2015 Ford Ranger Odyssey competition. Following 12 gruelling days and travelling 2000km through remote regions of Namibia a winner was finally determined.
The 23-year old beat 19 contestants to the title, including South Africans, Nigerians, Ivorians, an Angolan and a Mozambican.
Van Dyk wins an Odyssey-spec Ranger bakkie for a year including R5000 fuel per month!
Contestants were evaluated daily and Liane was among the top contenders throughout the event. She showed consistently high scores in all aspects, from the off-road driving to general knowledge tests, and constantly exhibited energy and enthusiasm. Contestants were scored on their convoy and off-road driving skills, camp etiquette, teamwork and communication skills, leadership qualities and adaptability.
There were also a series of assessments on general knowledge related to Namibia and Africa, celestial navigation, GPS navigation, as well as vehicle maintenance and recovery techniques.
Ford added two elimination rounds for the 2015 event where the two lowest-scoring contestants left the group on day four, and another three departed on day eight.
Van Dyk, who describes herself as an adventure junkie that's built for the outdoors and off-roading, is the 2015 Ranger Odyssey Champion. Congratulations Liane!
